ABOUT US

The South Boston Lithuanian Citizens’ Association (SBLCA) was formed in 1899 for the purpose of pursuing social and cultural opportunities and promoting good citizenship among newly arrived Lithuanian-American immigrants in the United States. The SBLCA established a place where members had access to a private facility for organizational and cultural activities, meetings and social events.

To this day the club mission provides Lithuanian-American social, cultural and educational activities and hosts many Lithuanian-American cultural and social events during the year for members and the community. Our four story building houses a combination of commercial office space, banquet halls and a Lithuanian restaurant and bar in the basement of the building. Banquet halls are available for a variety of events. The bar offers members and guests drinks, imported and domestic beers and favorite beers imported from Lithuania at a very reasonable price.

Membership Information

The membership of the South Boston Lithuanian Citizens’ Association is the ultimate decision making body. The members are the owners of the associations’ real property and all of its assets. That is the privilege of being a member of this organization. Membership in the South Boston Lithuanian Citizens’ Association (SBLCA) is purely voluntary and is open to all Lithuanian-Americans living and residing in the United States.

The following is a synopsis of membership requirements from the Constitution of the South Boston Lithuanian Citizens’ Association.

Membership in the association shall be of the following categories:

1. Regular Member

2. Special Member

1. The following are eligible to become a Regular Member of this association:

Any Lithuanian man or woman regardless of his or her religious and political beliefs;
Any person of Lithuanian descent.
Any person of non-Lithuanian descent who is married to a regular member.
It is also necessary to meet one of the following requirements:

A person of Lithuanian decent who is a citizen of the United States.
A person of Lithuanian decent who is a permanent or legal alien living in the United States
A person of Lithuanian decent who has a valid legal working permit/visa or student visa living in the United States.

2. The following are eligible to become a Special Member of this association:

Any honorable person over 21 years of age is eligible for special membership in this association upon recommendation of two Regular Members.

Special members shall have the use of the club rooms of this association.
Special members have no right to attend meetings of the regular members; they cannot vote; they cannot be elected to the Board of Directors, and they have no rights whatsoever to or over the property of this association.

For All Membership Categories:

New members must be sponsored by two regular members of the association.
Each member shall pay annual dues as approved by the SBLCA Board of Directors.
Regular/Special member dues are $40 and Veteran member dues are $20 annually.
Veteran membership status is achieved after 25 years of active membership in the association.
